Liam's Drawings

Liam is learning to read, which is a pretty miraculous process to watch, but equally exciting is seeing him get into drawing:

Animals in Chimneys!

Reid and I were practicing some letters and words today, with cards, when I came across this one.  On the back it has a three letter word that starts with "Z."  When I asked Reid what the picture was he correctly stated "animals in chimneys!"

November

Eating the last of the cherry tomatoes from our garden, which have been ripening in the colander on the counter:

Enjoying walks home from school through the woods:

We pretend to be ninjas (of course) on the walk. Liam found a metal tool, which turns out to be a handy sword.

Reid has started sporting the full body snowsuit.

We cross two bridges on the way:

And run through a final pine stand, watching out for "bad guy deer" and waving to the fairy forest and house along the way:

At home the Christmas cacti are in bloom on the kitchen counter:

And Reid has been very busy making forts. We call this Reid Feng Shui--finally the couch cushions are being put to good use. Today I asked him what he was doing when he was very carefully distributing Velcro balls all over the fort. "These are bullets to stop the bad guys," he said.

Believe it or not, we have also been attending Quaker meeting regularly for the last two months. The spirit of pacifism is clearly rubbing off.

Big brothers come in handy for making fort signs:

Sunday with the kiddos

Liam and Reid are found Sunday morning listening to French children's songs.

It's my day to take care of the kids during meeting.

We run:

Three Generations of Beautiful Women

Our dear friend Modesta had her daughter, Demaris Mikayla, on October 5th in Dar es Salaam. Demaris is now one month old and as cute as can be. Even when she was in high school, Modesta told me repeatedly that when she had kids, she hoped they would be fat, because she only liked fat babies. Well, it looks like Mode won out not only with a chubby, healthy little kiddo, but with one of the cutest babies around. We're so happy for Mode and her husband Matthew!
